Celebrating Triple Eye's 1st Anniversary!

This one looks at the team making One Last Job (through the lens of One Last Job).

I love it when a plan comes together!

Hey there, it's Lucas – thanks for joining me to celebrate Triple Eye's 1st birthday!

Although I had the idea two years ago to start Triple Eye Games, it took a year of prototyping and testing for me to accept that making a couple games is something I could do (with the help of a good team!). And even though the company officially kicked off in Sept 2023 w/ me as President & Treasurer, I like to think that my wife was employee #1 when, in Sept of 2022, she agreed to let me chase this dream. Thank you so much for your relentless support, Mrs. Lucas!

I'm also deeply grateful to the team of people working with me to make Triple Eye games a reality. You've definitely seen me link their sites / names over the course of this year's newsletters (including the last one), however I'd like to take some time to help you get to know them a little better. So, without further ado...

Let's dive in to the One Last Job Crew Creator to learn more about these people I call my coworkers, associates, and friends!

How to Build the Best Team*

I know what you're thinking: building a great team can't be THAT easy. But it IS.*

In the Crew editor, you can build your own packs of characters & manage their looks, concepts, perks, and quirks. These characters will then be available in the hiring pool when you start a new game* with those packs enabled.

Every feature can be randomized, if you only want to configure certain aspects manually.

In addition to naming and setting up some background fundamentals (Agile/Brawny/Crafty + the character's background Concept), there's a ton of visual customizations you can do. Also, if there's any feature of the character that you don't want to hand-configure, you can just leave it as random and that feature will be determined on the fly when the character comes up for hire.*

Billy configured all of these characters, so this is 100% a "strengths" self-assessment.
Some quirks are a little wackier than others.

All characters have perks and quirks, which impact (positively and negatively, respectively) their ability to succeed at certain tasks. For example, a Lazy character might find it harder to complete a task that requires their full attention (such as standing guard). A high-reputation character will have more perks than quirks – so you'll definitely want to hire high-rep people* as your own reputation grows*.

*: in One Last Job.

Effective Teamwork

So, what does a team in action look like? Let's follow along as Robin, Billy, and Dave join a randomly-generated crew member (Alitzel) on a jewel heist!

A lot of effort has gone into making the pawns move around on-screen. We've also got assets updated in-game (they're just waiting on the jobs to be configured w/ meaningful environments...). Even though the rando Alitzel wasn't much use, Robin & Billy (with Dave's help) still managed to pull things together at the end and finish the job successfully!

You'll notice there's still some work to be done where it comes to the play-by-play feedback and summary screen; we're getting there, and I'm looking forward to having some updates on that in the near future.

Thanks to the Best Team I Could Hope to Have

I hope you've enjoyed this quick look at our progress on One Last Job. I can't tell you how happy I am to be here, making weird and interesting games with these weird and interesting people.

Here's the full list of folks who have contributed to Triple Eye games & prototypes over the last year: Robin (linktree), Billy (linktree), Drummond (Myopic Studios), Heloisa (Behance), Pip (site), Athena (X / Bluesky), Alasdair (homepage), Dean, Julian (site), Bea (X), ClΓ©ment (homepage), Daniel (clane_k on Discord), Dave (.avodavo on Discord), Maitreyi (site), and Tarik (homepage). Thanks to all of you, for every bit of energy and creativity that you've contributed!

In the coming months, we'll launch the store page & start the marketing push for the triple-launch of Null State, Another Round, and One Last Job in 2025. Once that ball gets rolling, there's really no way to stop it... so I hope you're as excited as I am to see where things land next year!

Finally, let me say thanks to YOU for being along for the ride with me, through over a year of newsletters & updates. It really does mean the world to me that I've got someone on the other end of the line, reading these things! <3

Next month: what's Sid doing over in Null State? You wouldn't believe me if I told you... (Oct 2024 edit: and so I won't! πŸ˜…).
